A Creepy Chic Mystery Dinner …

The table is set and our 4th annual Mystery Dinner begins…

The  French maid Melissa and the Flapper Alyssa  help me with ice and water for the fourteen  guests.

Thank goodness they arrived early as I gave our house maid Tanya the night off.

and these wonderful eyeballs , white intestines and seasonal grapes brought by Barbara .

Here is our deserts,  chocolate cupcakes and red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.

The guest arrive looking spooktatular in their Black and White creepy chic attire.

and dinner is served (menu on previous post )

The guests break up into groups of three and began their quest to find all the answers and the final  mystery words. Here the girls are in the Theater room and they looked completely baffled…

while this group of handsome men were fast at work in the Parlor.

This very creepy chic group were in the Study finding their clues.

while this gruesome group of  three were in the Graveyard taking their time and having wine.

Everyone gathered in the Palor to go over their notes. And the winner of the clues and mystery words were the gruesome 3 in the graveyard !

The creepy chic three won best costume, and received beautiful silver necklaces.

Most Simply Chic  was Justin and Alyssa

Most Creepy goes to Barbara and Paul , they were dead pirates.

and the Mystery Words were

A Witches Brew…

2 oz Viper Venom

 1 oz Frog’s Blood.

Shake well.

Add 1 eye of Newt Serve Chilled

Darrill and I would like to say Thank-you for all who came and made this such a whimsical, creepy and exciting  mystery dinner. We hope to see everyone next year at our fifth.

Mystery Dinner at the Manor house…

It’s a cool and overcast morning at The Manor house….and the Creepy Chic Mystery Dinner is tonight…

I have set the table the night before so I have plenty of time to prepare the food  today..I use all my old silver that my grandma has given me and some extra pieces I have picked up at antique stores and thrift stores.

Here are three pieces I have just bought for tonight’s dinner and I always like to use silver, pewter , clear glass, and white dishes. I think I have spent about five dollars each piece.

I have  mixed  my thrift store finds with my good silver and they look great together !

I throw the white cloth napkins in the washer and dryer so they have that crinkled look.

I decided to use a white pumpkin with a black crow to keep with the black and white theme.

I used a large white tag with a black and white ribbon for place cards. And I wrote the names in ink and very messy so they looked creepy.

The Menu

spice nuts

fruit platter

veggie platter

raisin carrot salad

pumpkin bread

rosemary pork loin roast

herb mashed potatoes

french green beans

assorted wines

chocolate cupcakes

red velvet cake

coffee

Have a simply creepy evening….

Count down to our Mystery Dinner…

Count down to our Creepy Chic mystery dinner and I am going to post all my  tricks and treats this week as our dinner is this weekend.  The dinning room is decorated with just the right lighting…and some mice and black crows have decided to join us.

I have bought lots and lots of white candles to keep the evil spirits away.

The clues have been written and sealed with red wax…

and I have found that perfect creepy chic dress….and a very large pointy hat.

Darrill even built a graveyard in the front yard….

should be spooky …join me if your dare !

A fine paper Shoppe …

I love fine paper shoppe and this one was fine indeed. The store front window is fun and very creative “communicate with Jonathan Wright and company ” I wish I had a paper shoppe and a photo studio in back and a window just like this !

What I loved about this little paper shoppe is the classic paper Halloween goods , and the very nice paper stationary and the  beautiful pens and candle stamps. You will also discover gifts and favors for every season and occasion, premium writing instruments, luxury gift wrap and ribbon, as well as specialty books and paper goods. You can visit the shoppe  here at  7404 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, California  90036

Have a simply fun weekend !

Next post … still more wonderful  shoppes on Beverly Boulevard .

My mystery dinner …

This is a picture from my Mystery Dinner inspirational board from  pinterest , so simply spooky chic, hmm … I have enough wine bottles for this table setting, but all I have is dark wine bottles, it would look so much better if the wine bottles were all clear…I think dark might be okay…well I’ll have to wait and see.  This week I am making the chalkboard for the bistro.

How to make a  frame chalkboard on my next post.

La Dolce Vita…

Summer has been very busy, with vacation days, beach days, pool days, birthdays and  lots of party’s and events,  I can hardly catch my breath. When I finally get some alone time I can honestly say I enjoy every minute . This special night  I gave Leonardo a big dinner and warm bath and put him to bed early. And this evening I decided to create a quaint alfresco dinner just for myself….la Dolce Vita (the sweet life) , complete with dishes I never use and lots of candles.

I bought these french blue and  cream  dishes at a flea market in Pasadena.  I love to find old gems like these plates. .. with a touch of yellow…Simply earthy.

I brought outside all my candles from the house.

I decided to make a simple meal, a chicken spring salad and mint tea .

This salad is simple to make, fresh greens, cucumber, green grapes and grilled chicken. Topped with lemon , celery salt and olive oil.

I even bought a card for myself , and I wrote the menu on my chalkboard…

I enjoyed my alfresco dinner and I read my card over and over as I ate. Spending some quality time with ourselves is a perfect way to spend a summer evening. I had a cup of chai tea and strawberrys for desert .  After all  the work we do for our kids, we deserve to treat ourselves  !

la Dolce Vita … Ciao ! Thanks abeachcottage for Good life Wed.

A Wedding to remember…

Congrats to Lyndsey and  Steven  wed December 4th, 2010. I did not shoot this wedding, and I didn’t  bring my good camera so these photos aren’t very good…but I must say this was a very unique wedding. This couple is beautiful, creative , edgy and fun…and so was their wedding…

we arrived late and I was upset….but I got these great shots of this couple walking up the steps..

Steven Nunez is my brothers first-born and we all love him…

Lyndsey is a beautiful,  fun, smart and a exciting women, and we all love her.

Steven  is tall, dark , cool, edgy and a really nice guy… and they have been together for a long time.

so when we heard they were finally getting married we were all thrilled !

All eyes were on her as she looked  stunning …

Their very unique colors were purple, black, grey and pink….and white. The cake had a dark purple frosting, with chocolate cake and vanilla filling. They had a L, N and S on top for Lyndsey Nunez and Steven.

Her center pieces were black branches with hanging crystals and purple flowers stuck onto the branches. Lyndsey and her mom made the center pieces themselves wow, did they looked beautiful.

Tanya and Lyndsey, they look like they could be sisters…

Creepy Chic Halloween

Creepy Chic  Halloween week…I love the old world 18th century Halloween decorating style, and I start my festivities with black and white,  the theme I am using  for my  masquerade ball. Here are some of  my simple white dishes with  some  simple touches that  I have create for my Creepy Chic event.

I have added black napkins, some black  spiders , cream pumpkins,my glass desert plates, and  a black crow.

I bought these black and white clues cards at Micheals.  I used my old cologne bottle and added some stickers for my poison bottle. And I am using my crystal antique  napkin rings for some sparkle.

I decided to use my mask as a center piece, but I still need to pick up some white roses .

Darrill and I have been fighting over the three crows I bought at Target, he wanted my crows for his gravestones ! Target  had some great Creepy Chic napkins, plates and table cloths this Halloween season.

I am using my french press for coffee and I am making Mexican hot chocolate and pumpkin chocolate candy, the recipes on a later post. This would be the bistro ( kitchen ). Next post the Dinning room.

I hope everyone has a creepy fun week

My Scrimp Boil

A scrimp boil at the beach is a must, and this is an easy recipe to makes which makes this a fuss free event. First you will need a very large stock pot, and fill it  3/4 full with water.  Next put in 2 large brown onions whole  , 3 large lemons cut in half  and 2 scrimp boil in a bag , bring to a boil. Then add  5 pounds of little red potatoes and 6 corn on the cobb cut in half, and boil for 20 minutes. Next put in 3 pounds of cooked spicy sausages cut in 4 inch pieces   , and boil for another 5 minutes, then  add 2 bags of uncooked  shell and tail on shrimp for 5  more min. Check to make sure the potatoes are tender and the scrimp is pink.  Then drain the water and pour the remaining contents into a large container. The pot was very heavy and hot , so I spooned a lot of the water out, then I POURED the remaining water out with a large  strainer.

I then set the table with a blue and teal hammock , I bought at world market , out  on porch overlooking  the beach. I bought the large teal container at Target. I had sodas and water in a large cooler and everyone helped themselves.

I got some cocktail sauce , butter and sourdough bread,  and cut up some lemons and limes and put them on the table.

Melissa, Brandon’s girlfriend ,  carried the pot out to the table for me and Kim helped me cook.

I set the table with some green polka dot dishes I found at the dollar store, a bowl for everyone so they could put the scrimp shells in. Everyone served them selves and clean up was one pot, how easy is that ?  This is a great one pot dish to serve at a picnic or a the  lake or your backyard.  But I must say, eating a scrimp boil at the beach,  smelling the salt air was well,  just perfect !  Hope everyone has a great weekend !
