We have been on three weekend jaunts these last three weeks, Santa Barbara, San Diego and Big Bear, and I am now just posting Santa Barbara. I have bags in the hallway still packed with our clothes. I am becoming one of those photographers who shoots so many photos I forget that I have all these beautiful places to post. I thought maybe I would use fewer words and just post my pictures, after all a picture is worth a thousand words, right ? Here I will start with Santa Barbara…I love this beach town, I would love to spend our entire summer here, it’s always so cool and the food on the wharf is the best fish on the California coast. We had lunch at Longborads Grill then headed to the Carousel. We rented bikes this time but brought Leos.
Dinning Alfresco and Darrill grilled the top sirloin steak and salmon. I made the summer pasta salad with lemon pepper seasoning. Sides are grilled veggies , fresh avocado with chili pepper and cilantro and lemons. White wine and water with lemon. Desert fresh strawberry shortcake.
Feels like summer !
Have a wonderful week .

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 16,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
In 2011, there were 132 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 281 posts. There were 1148 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 2gb. That’s about 3 pictures per day.
The busiest day of the year was June 21st with 307 views.
The most popular post that day was Venice Beach shopping…”The Bountiful”.
Thank-you wordpress, and a big thank-you to all of you who have stopped by to visit my blog. I have had some request for more pictures of Costal Beach shopping and alfresco dinning at cafes. I will be heading to the local beaches a lot in 2012, to post my latest finds so please join me and have a wonderful 2012 !
A weekend with Kim in W. hollywood , I always feel like a local when we go out together in her town . This evening we dined alfresco on her patio then headed to the silent movie house to see a 60’s french movie. I heard this place was haunted and the whole experience sounded groovy…..
everything you see here is from Fresh and Easy, we both love to shop there and their pizzas are so fresh !
On to the movie house…611 N. Fairfax Avenue, L.A. We found this information on top 10 haunted placed in Hollywood.
One of the most gruesome histories of any movie theater, the Silent Movie Theatre has forever cemented its status in haunted Hollywood. Legends include ghosts in the projection rooms, blood-splattered carpet from machine-gun murders and a constant haunting by two former owners. Talk about scary movies….
Kim’s phone rang and I jumped…I had a very uneasy feeling and I could feel the ghosts here, Kim just laughed at me and said I was crazy.
How creepy were these pictures of the silent movie stars who headline here, a lot of them had short careers.
I love this old movie house it was cool and creepy. It was very causal and I felt like I was at some friends house relaxing on sofas and having desert and coffee. The movie was well different and I enjoyed the whole evening. Information below from theatres/SilentMovie.
Silent Movie began in with personal film collection of Mr. John Hampton, who
opened the small theatre 1942, when silent movies had already been passed for 15
years. He hoped the forgotten comedies would bring a smile to those suffering in
the depths of the Great Depression.
struck the Silent Movie Showcase on January 17, 1997, when the owner of the
theater, Laurence Austin, was shot and killed during an apparent robbery
attempt. Police later arrested his longtime business partner for hiring the
gunman to kill Austin, so that he could gain the inheritance.
announced that he was
selling the theatre to new owners: two young brothers, Sammy & Dan Harkham
(age 26 & 24) and Hadrian beloved. They have turned the small theatre into a
revival house, featuring an eclectic mix of relatively recent movies with
sound. However, they do still show silent movies (with live music) once a week.
However, unlike Lustman, who tended to stick with the classics (like Charlie
Chaplin), the Harkham’s hope to show lesser-known silent films.
A great place to go to for the month of October….but only if you believe in ghosts !
The Mediterranean diet is not only a weight loss and maintenance diet, it’s also one of the healthiest way of eating in the world. It’s also called “Mediterranean cuisine” as it is the traditional eating lifestyle of the Mediterranean people. By following the Mediterranean Diet you will be able to avoid the frequent hunger pangs and increase your metabolism.
What is the easiest way to start the Mediterranean diet?
Choosing natural, unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seafood, olive oil, nuts, avocados, yogurt, and cheese to make up the bulk of your diet is the easiest way to make your diet more like the Mediterranean Diet.
- Cook “Unique plates” (Plates that mix carbs and proteins together)
- Make olive oil your primary source of dietary fat
- Incorporate an abundance of food from plant sources, including fruits and vegetables, breads, grains, beans, nuts, and seeds
- Reduce the consumption of red meat
- Eat low to moderate amounts of fish and poultry weekly
- Eat low to moderate amounts of cheese and yogurt daily
- Drink a moderate amount of wine (up to one to two glasses per day for men and up to one glass per day for women).
- It’s easy to follow the Mediterranean Diet because…It’s convenient, tasty and quick!
I have had some emails asking how I stay fit . (#8 on the ten things we want to do for the summer ). I have always been on the Mediterranean diet, but I stop eating fast foods and I cook almost all our meals now. Pasta is what I have around the house all week-long. I make a cold pasta salad with veggies, apples and green onions and olive oil and put it in a container and keep it in the refrigerator. I eat fish and chicken at least 2 times a week and I love to eat breads and grains. I carry a water bottle with me everywhere. I exercise at least 3 to 5 times a week. I feel great !
My signature dinner has always been Spaghetti . I am a pretty good cook (my mom is a fantastic cook ) and I make a mean spaghetti dinner , and the kids know what they are going to eat when they come over. Spaghetti, fresh basil salad and french bread and olive oil. Now I have a sweet tooth so a double chocolate cake is always on the menu .
My breakfast is usually 2 soft-boiled farm fresh eggs, sprouted toast, 1/2 grapefruit, green tea with trivia or Greek yogurt topped with berries
My lunch is sometimes a sprouted bread cucumber sandwich or pasta with chicken and always fresh fruit.
My dinner is basil tomato salad with french bread and olive oil and sometimes I add grilled fish and a glass of red wine.
Information from the mediterranean book. and this website will also send you a free Mediterranean diet plan.
Summer has been very busy, with vacation days, beach days, pool days, birthdays and lots of party’s and events, I can hardly catch my breath. When I finally get some alone time I can honestly say I enjoy every minute . This special night I gave Leonardo a big dinner and warm bath and put him to bed early. And this evening I decided to create a quaint alfresco dinner just for myself….la Dolce Vita (the sweet life) , complete with dishes I never use and lots of candles.
I bought these french blue and cream dishes at a flea market in Pasadena. I love to find old gems like these plates. .. with a touch of yellow…Simply earthy.
I brought outside all my candles from the house.
I decided to make a simple meal, a chicken spring salad and mint tea .
This salad is simple to make, fresh greens, cucumber, green grapes and grilled chicken. Topped with lemon , celery salt and olive oil.
I even bought a card for myself , and I wrote the menu on my chalkboard…
I enjoyed my alfresco dinner and I read my card over and over as I ate. Spending some quality time with ourselves is a perfect way to spend a summer evening. I had a cup of chai tea and strawberrys for desert . After all the work we do for our kids, we deserve to treat ourselves !
la Dolce Vita … Ciao ! Thanks abeachcottage for Good life Wed.
A birthday dinner for hunter on my back veranda with my simple white dishes, and jars I saved for a candle holder. Yes I love simplicity.
I used my small round table for a sideboard.
Tanya helped with all the details….napkins, ice tea, olive oil , french bread, salt and pepper.
the sun was setting and it was time for dinner …
all the kids came, Brandon, Justin, Tanya, Fernando and of course Darrill and Leo .
Basil chicken linguine with lemon butter sauce , and basil salad…simple but so good !
Double chocolate cake with whip cream frosting and sliced almonds with vanilla ice cream…for desert ! I baked the cake just before the dinner so it was fresh !
Happy birthday Hunter I hope you had a wonderful birthday, I can’t believe your fifteen !!
It was a long girls weekend with Danielle’s bridal shower(post on ” The paper mystique”) in Thousand oaks and then down to Long Beach to spend the weekend with Marissa. A lot of driving but well worth it as we had a blast at Long beach and Belmont shores. Belmont Shores spans 2nd Street and Ocean Avenue near the southernmost part of the city between Bluff Park on the west and Naples Island on the East. Second Street and the fifteen intersecting side streets make up the business district of Belmont Shore. The neighborhood features Spanish-style homes from the 1920s and 30’s as well as beach bungalows. We were out late Sat. night and got up late Sunday morning but just in time for some yoga on the beach…
The yoga on the beach is free with a donation and I was surprised to see so many people. The mantra for the day was
” All my relationships are encoded in love and infused with joy “
I must admit the scenery was amazing ! I loved yoga on the beach it was so much more relaxing, and the connection to the earth elements made it that much more refreshing !
Next we headed to 4th street which Marrisa said was a great place for Vintage boutiques.
Elans Collections, vintage furnishings, upholstery and accessories.
A lot of very cool retro cameras…I should buy one.
Ok I did the one that is missing from the shelf, should be cool for some photo shoots.
Looks like a cool shop…
wow these clothes are very cute.
I really liked the shoes on the bottem roll. About $150.00 to start.
Now this was one of my favoite stores “Liberty”
The dressing rooms doors are old refrigerators doors how clever ! So very sixtys !
We ended the afternoon with some Alfresco dinning at the Portfolio. Mango ice tea and grilled pannini.
Next post to Naples Island and then to the beach to watch kite surfing.
Also Marissas photo shoot on the beach… post on my Simply Natural Photography blog.http://simplynaturalphotography.wordpress.com/
Hope everyone has a simply wonderful week !
