Join me this week for a French Inspired Christmas…
Have a wonderful week.
When it come to gift wrap I like simple and earthy . I never throw any brown paper bags away. I use to buy lots of ribbon, but gave them all to my mother and bought some twine and paper ribbons. As seen on my other blog thepapermystique…
Have a great weekend…
A weekend jaunt to San Luis Obispo for some window shopping down Haguera street with some out-of-town guest .
This street is so very quaint with all the outdoor sidewalks and old brick buildings and earthy boutiques…..
It’s that time of year from some warm socks and this sock boutiques was certainly fun !
Have you started your holiday shopping yet ? I am just now starting a little late this year…
Time to pick up some holiday cards and I found the perfect place, The Paper Sky…a whimsical and fun paper shop, I adored the perfect little cards hanging all in a row.
or some simple paper tags in a jars ready for your Christmas gifts …
This small town takes me back to my youth as I use to come spend my summers here with my girlfriend Trish and ride her horse captain, I wonder if she still lives here.
This is a town to ponder, to explore and to shop…
have a great week
As far as nursery go this one is very earthy and so beautiful. This place use to be the town tire , and the sign is still there and before that it was an open air market in the 1930’s. This Hollywood location caters to the woman with the home decor building and the cooking building which makes this a place Kim and I had to see.
So very rustic yet elegant …
The selection of pottery is perfect for any earth plant lover.
I was thinking this old rusty bird-cage would look great for my mystery dinner this month. Well I have to wait and see what else there was here. Kim and I headed into the home decor building…and I really enjoyed the very beautiful display of textiles, old books and old antique silver trays. Yes I must have a silver tray.
This place was so very enchanting, complete with brick walls and beautiful chandelier …….
and bedding for any bedroom (at a plant nursery wow ?)…
and more urns and textiles…
This place had different sections for everything. The kitchen area had everything a cook would love…from all kinds of cooking essentials.
to candles and salt boxes.
The perfect wonderful circular cutting board. (I’ll take one of these too ! )
Cook books on earthy cuisine from Italy to Sweden’s sweets.
european towels…why yes I ‘ll take a few!
Never trust a skinny cook sign(cute ) . I would have liked to take just a few more things home but I ended up with an antique silver tray for my Mystery dinner. As your insider guide to great places in L.A. this is a must see with the girls !

Have a great week !
Tonight is the Autumnal Equinox. The word equinox comes from the Latin words for “equal night.” The fall and spring equinoxes are the only days of the year in which the Sun crosses the celestial equator.
From here on out, the temperatures begin to drop and the days start to get shorter. See your local Sun rise and set times and see how the days change!
On the equinoxes, the very center of the Sun sets just 12 hours after it rises. But the day begins when the upper edge of the Sun reaches the horizon (which happens a bit before the center rises), and it doesn’t end until the entire Sun has set. Not only that, but the Sun is actually visible when it is below the horizon, as Earth’s atmosphere refracts the Sun’s rays and bends them in an arc over the horizon. According to our former astronomer, George Greenstein, “If the Sun were to shrink to a starlike point and we lived in a world without air, the spring and fall equinoxes would truly have ‘equal nights.'”

In the new 2012 energy, we will all have to pay close attention to mother earth…she will protect us if we show her our sincere consideration.
Happy Autumnal Equinox mother earth !
I hope everyone has a simply enchanting weekend…

Yes, I have simplified the style of my blog….as I wanted to reduce clutter and add more of my California lifestyle …
and sometimes change is good !
and I reduced the clutter in my bag too. I have only my keys, my wafer sunglasses and sunglasses wipe cloth, my phone, my compact blush, my lip gloss , my wallet and a pocket camera the one I am using to take this picture !
Have a great week and whats in your bag Sarah from abeachcottage ?
An easy way to use up all my fresh basil and fresh spinach is to make Simple basil pesto.
I add 1 whole bunch of fresh basil, 5 whole clove of fresh garlic, 4 tablespoons of olive oil, 3 teaspoons of lemon juice and 1 cup of fresh spinach in a blender.
I add all these spices about a 1/2 teaspoon each and a 3 full teaspoons of sesame seeds. And blend on ice chop for about 5 mins
untill the mixture is smooth.
Cook a 12oz bag of linguine for 10 mins drain and spoon pesto on the cooked linguine and mix.
Make a simple salad with Romain leafs , green onions, salami and a chuck of cheddar cheese, add blue cheese dressing and pepper.
A little grated parmesan cheese and dinner is served, Bon Appetit !
We decided to have our family dinner at Brandon’s house this year . So I began with a trip to the farmers market with my big straw bag for some fresh veggies and herbs.
I had to get some green onions, cilanthro
and most important basil and eggplant for my spaghetti sauce.
I love the smell of fresh basil. I use can whole tomatoes, sea salt, basil, garlic, eggplant, fresh ground round for my sauce. I made the sauce early so the herbs blend throughly and brought everything over to Brandon’s house and set up on his back patio. The menu , spaghetti, bruschetta, fresh basil salad, wine, ice tea, double choc. cake with choc frosting with Trader Joe’s vanilla ice cream and choc cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.
We have a new addition to the family and his name is Sam, the kids had a great time playing with him but Leo was upset when Sam jump on him. Finally we told Leo to stop running and tell Sam stop and to sit.
I like to have the dress white as this being the end of summer dinner. Tanya looked so fresh in her white shirt and jeans.
and so did Melissa (right) and her mom (left). Everyone looked like they were having a nice time !
…but us girls were having too much fun posing for pictures !
Happy 23rd Birthday Justin !
And Happy Birthday Melissa !!
Hope the magic of this evening stays with you both the whole year till next year at our end of summer family dinner !
We almost made our list for the “Ten things we wanted to do for the summer’ except for ” #4 Have a tennis tournament at night. (everyone plays), oh well we’ll try ten for ten next year, hope everyone had a wonderful summer. Now it’s time to start planning for our annual Mystery Dinner next month !
Summer has been very busy, with vacation days, beach days, pool days, birthdays and lots of party’s and events, I can hardly catch my breath. When I finally get some alone time I can honestly say I enjoy every minute . This special night I gave Leonardo a big dinner and warm bath and put him to bed early. And this evening I decided to create a quaint alfresco dinner just for myself….la Dolce Vita (the sweet life) , complete with dishes I never use and lots of candles.
I bought these french blue and cream dishes at a flea market in Pasadena. I love to find old gems like these plates. .. with a touch of yellow…Simply earthy.
I brought outside all my candles from the house.
I decided to make a simple meal, a chicken spring salad and mint tea .
This salad is simple to make, fresh greens, cucumber, green grapes and grilled chicken. Topped with lemon , celery salt and olive oil.
I even bought a card for myself , and I wrote the menu on my chalkboard…
I enjoyed my alfresco dinner and I read my card over and over as I ate. Spending some quality time with ourselves is a perfect way to spend a summer evening. I had a cup of chai tea and strawberrys for desert . After all the work we do for our kids, we deserve to treat ourselves !
la Dolce Vita … Ciao ! Thanks abeachcottage for Good life Wed.
