I thought I would post more this summer, about everyday things. Today I bought this pretty French pillow at Mora’s Antiques in Old town Lake Elsinore. It’s vintage, linen and so pretty. It makes me think about a trip to France , faded jeans and simply dreaming.  Have a magical day.

Labor day weekend…San Clemente

I  spent Labor day weekend in the small quaint beach  town of San Clemente. I like the simple and easy life style of this place. I would love to have a big Victorian house by the sea, and own a beautiful apothecary shop full of wonderful smells , lotions and herbs. I wore a simple black dress and vintage 1970’s  hat to the beach which made me feel so very classic chic.  A wonderful place to ponder, wander and simply dream…

 have a wonderful week

Beauty at Lakeshore dr….

It’s cooler now and the sky seems so crisp and clear. I dropped leo off at preschool today and stopped to take this photo of this pretty mailbox by the lake. The old tree and the lake was the  perfect backdrop for this pretty mail box…

….funny I drive by this street every week and never noticed these  mailboxes. All these pretty black, white  and grey mailboxes all in a row.  It was noon and the sun  was at the perfect location as it shinned through the old California pepper trees.

Sometimes where we least expect it we can find beauty in our everyday lives…I challenge you to take a moment and  find some beauty in your everyday lives …take a moment walk by a lake, a stream or the beach….or maybe even a park….or just to stop and and smell a flower. You’ll be amazed.

that’s my good life Wednesday for...abeachcottage !

Have a simply enchanting week…

Happy Mother’s Day

Hope all mother’s  everywhere have a simply wonderful day !

I had a wonderful morning with Tanya, she cooked me breakfast and had beautiful flowers for me, then we went and had our nails done and shopped for her trip for Italy, she is leaving tomorrow !  I am soooo excited for her and her husband Fernando. I would say Florence Italy is the most romantic place in the world.

When I travel…part 2

(Photo from classic female pics)

When I travel I wished I look like this(we can dream, right ?)  I love this picture the perfect scarf and sunglasses and a cool red convertible( I have a green convertible).  This is the perfect retro look for a coastal drive. I always try to wear a scarf ,or a hat,  it always makes  sense and looks so  retro chic . Maybe  something Natalie Wood would wear …

The Magic of March…

I took this picture in San Francisco and asked these ladies where they were from, with a cute Irish accent they said” Ireland of course.” Funny, I should have guessed. Why ? look at how red their hair is, and how sweet they look. I love the Irish, and I feel bad for all their tragedies, and how bad they had it when they frist came over to America.  I think these people have a spirit that keeps them going in the hardest of times. They always believed in luck, and a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

I would love to chase rainbows when my kids were young. My children think I am idealistic, with both feet firmy planted in mid-air. There were  large mushrooms going in our yard when the kids were young, and only in our yard. All the kids in the neighborhood would come over to see them and ask me why only our house had these  mushrooms. I told them leprechauns lived in our yard and the mushrooms were their home, because we believe in them  and they brought  us  good luck ! And after the lawn was cut, the mushrooms would grow back, larger than before.

A certain wistfulness occurs when some people use the phrase the luck of the Irish.  It could just as easily be said that the luck of the Irish relates to poor fortune, bad times, and centuries of losses. A look into Irish poetry or writing always focuses on tragedy. In fact, in some writings, it is these multiple tragedies that are held close to the heart and become an essential part of being Irish. So these people know how to endure and carry on. They had to believe in good luck !

I was in Ireland in 1990 and I loved the green rolling hills, and their hearty food (corn beef, cabbage and red potatoes, the best meal of all times ), and of course their beer !  I think it’s uplifting to believe in good luck, to chase  the end of a rainbow, and to believe in the  luck of a four-leaf clover. I remember looking for four-leaf covers when I was young(long ago), and never finding one. But for those hours and hours of looking ( I was young and  idealistic) I would think to myself, when I do find my four-leaf cover I am going to get a million dollars, or that pot of gold. I was happy for hours ! Don’t you feel happy when you see a rainbow ? When we drove to Arizona there was the most beautiful rainbow I ever saw, we could see it from end to end. We  were so thrilled  at that moment, and Leo loved it !

When was the last time you kissed a frog  that turned into a prince, or  danced to celtic music and kicked up your heels ? Or weep tears into the  sea of life,or looked under a mushroom growing in your yard ? Maybe it’s time we all started to believe in just a little bit of  magic…for the month of March and for this magical year of 2011. Find me an Irish to kiss !

And have a magical  St. Patrick’s Day !

The art of doing nothing…

Today I enjoyed the art of doing nothing. I enjoyed sleeping in late. Then walking to our fountain by our house and putting my feet up…

…and I watched Leo play in the distance with his trains…

I looked at the water pouring out of the fountain again and again thinking to myself , this is really nice.

I could hear the birds chirping, funny I have been here before I and never took the time hear them chirp…

I don’t think I ever realized the tiles were such a pretty color BLUE.

and the flowers so RED, the art of doing nothing is such a wonderful art !

Hope everyone has a simply relaxing week !

A Romantic Place…

Yes, the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco is a very romantic place and I loved every minute of it …but I think true romance is a state of mind, a look , a feeling of escape into another realm, a realm of a dream like fantasy which could be anywhere, anyplace , anytime. Do we really need to travel to Paris, or Venice , or San Francisco to feel this way? Maybe a walk in a park, or a midnight stroll under the moonlight  can be so very romantic if we are with that special someone.  Sometimes when we have so much to worry about we lose ourselves and our desire for that moment of bliss that can inspire our true connection to each other…

(Palace of Fine Arts)

a simple smile , or a simple compliment, maybe a  kiss… from our sweetheart is all we really need…hopefully we all can take the time to find that romantic place in our hearts again…., I am wishing  you all… a very romantic day  !

Egypt in Crisis

I am sadden to see such a beautiful country with so much to offer this world with their beautiful history and amazing temples in crisis. People are jamming Cairo’s airport today while  the U.S. and other governments scramble to evacuate their citizens from Egypt as riots, looting and lawlessness spread across a nation struggling to overthrow nearly 30 years of authoritarian rule — and still uncertain of what’s to come.  I was in Egypt in 2006 and loved this city of Cairo, the diamond ring Darrill bought for me is from this amazing city, and I have always been so very proud of that fact. I love the Pyramids and  all the sacred temples . The architecture of ancient Egypt includes some of the most famous structures in the world: the Great Pyramids of Giza, the  temple at Thebes, Luxor , the  temple of Isis, and my personal sanctuary,  the temple of Karnack .  Darrill and I rode horseback at the Pyramids and I turned to him and said  “it doesn’t get any better than this amazing experience”, and you know what, it hasn’t. I can only say a prayer for Egypt, its people, its temples, in hopes that  everything  will be saved…

                                                                                                 …in sadness ….xoxo Cheryl
