Vintage Hollywood Blvd…

The Hollywood walk of fame was created in 1953, with the original idea for creating a  Walk as a means to “maintain the glory of a community whose name means glamour and excitement in the four corners of the world.” Today my girlfriends and I enjoyed the vintage billboards that are still there today,  to remind us of the classic movie greats such as Peter Lorre and Alfred Hitchcock.  I felt like Alfred and Peter were right there staring at us ! Old Hollywood fun and glamor.  A great day of shopping, talking and eating all along Hollywood  Blvd.  I wore my vintage 1960’s hat, my vintage 1980’s coat and my vintage 1980’s boots.

Lavender the gift of love…

Lavender is the gift of love…why not give herbs instead of flowers , a beautiful scented soap, or some wonderful lavender lotions . I spent the day here at the Temecula  lavender Company in Old town Temecula buying some gifts for some friends and myself.

They harvest their lavender locally and make everything for the store here. I love these handmade lavender soaps.

The smell of lavender is so calming , true lavender is related to the mint Lamiaceae family. Also Know as English lavender though not native to England.

It is a flowering plant native to the western Mediterranean region. True lavender includes Spanish lavender, Spike lavender, but Lavandins include Sweet lavender from Provence. And why not try lavender for cooking. A wonderful place to shop and I found their prices very reasonable.

You can visit there website here. temeculalavenderco.

Tonight after dinner am going to soak in these wonderful oils, soaps and lotions.

San Luis Obispo….

A weekend jaunt  to San Luis Obispo for some window shopping down Haguera street with some out-of-town guest .

This street is so very quaint with all the outdoor sidewalks and old brick buildings and earthy boutiques…..

It’s that time of year from some warm socks and this sock boutiques was certainly fun !

Have you started your holiday shopping yet ? I am just now starting a little late this year…

Time to pick up some holiday cards and I found the perfect place, The Paper Sky…a whimsical and fun paper shop, I adored the perfect little cards hanging all in a row.

or some simple paper tags in a jars ready for your Christmas gifts …

This small town takes me back to my youth as I use to come spend my summers here with my girlfriend Trish and  ride her horse captain,  I wonder if she still lives here.

This is a town to ponder, to explore and to shop…

have a great week

Viennese Coffee…

Now that we can make a great cup of coffee from a french press, I thought I would give you the recipe for my favorite coffee drink, Viennese Coffee

I had this coffee in Venice , Italy and I will never forget how enchanting that day was, or how wonderful this coffee drink taste. It was a cold and brisk day and I was wearing black gloves, a tweed gray coat , jeans and black boots. Funny how a smell or a taste can send you back in time. My recipe is for two of course.

Recipe

2 cups of coffee, dark roast

1/2 cup heavy cream whipped

ground cinnamon, nutmeg

Pour the coffee into two cups. Top each cup with a large dollop of whipped cream, swirl the whip cream with a spoon and sprinkel with cinnamon and nutmeg.

My next post is two simply enchanting shops in Old town Claremont that takes me back to my youth, have a great day !

The are such a cute couple and soooo in love !

Tanya was always posing for the camera ever since she was old enough to stand .

My cousin Ronnie played percussion in  the band …

bEACH fUN wITH mARISSA !!

It was a long girls weekend with Danielle’s bridal shower(post on ” The paper mystique”) in Thousand oaks and then down to Long Beach to spend the weekend with Marissa. A lot of driving but well worth it as we had a blast  at Long beach and Belmont shores. Belmont Shores spans 2nd Street and Ocean Avenue near the southernmost part of the city between Bluff Park on the west and Naples Island on the East. Second Street and the fifteen intersecting side streets make up the business district of Belmont Shore. The neighborhood features Spanish-style homes from the 1920s and 30’s as well as beach bungalows. We were out late Sat. night and got up late Sunday morning but just in time for some yoga on the beach…

The yoga on the beach is free with a  donation and I was surprised to see so many people. The  mantra for the day was

” All my relationships are encoded in love and infused with joy “

I must admit the scenery was amazing ! I loved yoga on the beach it was so much more relaxing, and the connection to the earth elements made it that much more refreshing !

Next we headed to 4th street which Marrisa said was a great place for Vintage boutiques.

Elans Collections, vintage furnishings, upholstery and accessories.

A lot of very cool retro cameras…I should buy one.

Ok I did the one that is missing from the shelf, should be cool for some photo shoots.

Looks like a cool shop…

wow  these  clothes are very cute.

I really liked the shoes on the bottem roll. About $150.00 to start.

Now this was one of my favoite stores  “Liberty”

The dressing rooms doors are old refrigerators doors how clever ! So very sixtys !

We ended the afternoon with some  Alfresco dinning at the Portfolio. Mango ice tea and grilled pannini.

Next post to Naples Island and then to the beach to watch kite surfing.

Also Marissas photo shoot on the beach… post on my Simply Natural Photography blog.http://simplynaturalphotography.wordpress.com/

Hope everyone has a simply wonderful week !

A small town 4th of July…

A small town  4th of July  in  Oak Park ,Chicago….

(#3 on the ten things we want to do for the summer )

complete with red , white and blue jelly beans…

an array of wonderful  breakfast food…

and red watermelon that Leo loves !

Leo finally got the hang of playing this game.

Here are all the  kids in a row waving their flags , waiting for the parade to start.

Leo was eyeing this cute little guys jelly beans….

he just couldn’t wait and  helped himself.

Here comes the parade now !!

The town’s firemen start the parade….

There was lots of people in their decorated cars to see, and lots of candy for the kids.

The end of the parade and  Leo waved goodby …Thanks Dave ,Paula , Cat and Maggie for

a simply wonderful day , next post stuffed pizza with Dan  !

Inn at Venice Beach…

Charming and so very whimsical , the Inn at Venice Beach right by the canals and a short walk to the pier and the boardwalk. Darrill did some research and found this Inn. I loved this place as it has a two room loft which we stayed at,  and hot cookies at the front desk !

what I liked about this place, in-room coffee and refrigerator, private balconies, high-speed wireless internet and an on site fitness center….

what I loved about this place was  dinning Alfresco on the cobblestone courtyard.  And their fresh pastries, fruits, juices and specially blended coffee and teas that are served every morning. We had breakfast twice, and Leo enjoyed serving himself.

The address is 327 Washington Blvd, Venice Ca. 90291. www.innatvenicebeach.com.  We were able to leave our car in the parking garage so we didn’t have to pay a day of parking at the beach,  as we left very late around 7pm.  I would defiantly come back again   !

Next post the fun paper shop, I promise !!

Happy Mother’s Day

Hope all mother’s  everywhere have a simply wonderful day !

I had a wonderful morning with Tanya, she cooked me breakfast and had beautiful flowers for me, then we went and had our nails done and shopped for her trip for Italy, she is leaving tomorrow !  I am soooo excited for her and her husband Fernando. I would say Florence Italy is the most romantic place in the world.
