Newport beach cottage

A cottage by the sea at Newport Beach, home of the Dory Fishing Fleet founded in 1891,  where I can hear the waves at night when I sleep taking me back to a time when I was young. Back home  and so sad, I could have spent the entire month at Newport Beach and Balboa Island. We had a simple routine we would do everyday, up at 7 am then a slow walk to the playground on the beach. Then we would come back to the cottage and  make breakfast while Leo watched his cartoon  , next  we would get on our bikes and  ride to Balboa Island for shopping and lunch . Then back to the beach for the rest of the day relaxing and swimming in the ocean. Hunter learn how  to ride his bogie board and was out on the water all day. A scrimp  boil for  dinner , which I made Sunday and I had enough left overs for all week , I will post the recipe on a later post. Another great dinner we had was at the Crab Cooker,  my favorite place in southern California to eat. We road our bikes everywhere, a bike is a must at the beach, it doesn’t matter how old you are everyone rides a bike. And boy did I tone up, how I toned up in one week on a later post  !  All  my kids came down to the beach and I was able to do a photo shoot for each couple pictures on my photography  blog.

I am wearing a 1970’s boho top with a brown and turquoise bottom. My vintage shell necklace is from Venice Beach.  Which creates a  Bohemian chic bathing suit.

Simply breath and let it be

Well what I have learned about  this horrible ordeal of my hives breakout is once again  doctors  knows nothing about why it happens or how to cure them, I got a shot of a steroid and was sent home to find them reappear in the morning .  I was prescribed oral steroids which made me dizzy and disoriented.  They also told me to take Benadryl and I have been sleepy for three days  and  I still had hives.  I saw 3 different doctors, and one said there was nothing you can do but wait it out !  Wow was I depressed. I also realized that when the hives started to appear, I would go into a state of panic and fear that the hives would soon be taking over my body, and that is exactly what would happen.   So  I relaxed and meditated  and I created a mantra for myself to say .

I bring peace to every corner of my life. I love and accept myself exactly as I am. My good  health  comes from within. I move forward fearlessly  trusting that I am divinely guided in every step that I take. I am here to create harmonious relationships and beautiful photography thereby contributing to a more  peaceful planet. Simply breath and let it be.

I started drinking eight to ten glasses of water everyday, and I  only ate white rice and bananas. I went to the vitamin store and got the ones that were stated in the previous post. I got aloe vera natural body gel for my skin outbreaks.   Finally my out breaks lessen and I started to feel less anxious, and today is the frist day that I can say I feel better. I am still very light-headed from my rice and banana diet but I lost five pounds.  Not that I would recommend this diet to lose weight but to detox it seemed to work.

So I leave you with this

simply breath and let it be…….

Hope everyone has a beautiful week.

Hives Breakout

I have had a horrible hive breakout over the weekend and I have no idea why it started. I have never had any hive breakout ever in my entire life, so needless to say I was shocked  ! I had to rush to a 24 hour clinic  at one in the morning to have a shot. I am now on medications from the doctor that cannot be any  good for me,  so I got on the web and found  healthskincare.com and copied this information. Please send me any information at all on Hives PLEASE THANKS  !

One of several natural antihistamines is vitamin c. In addition to being a powerful anti-oxidant and immune booster, some studies have shown that high doses of vitamin c can help reduce sensitivity to allergens and reduce inflammation, mucus production, and wheezing. Researchers at Arizona State University indicated that taking 2000mg of vitamin c per day reduces histamine levels in the blood by up to 40%. In order to act as a natural antihistamine the dose is usually greater than 1000mg per day.

Acerola cherry which is a small, bright red, berry-sized fruit that is similar to the common cherry is a fruit that contains very high amounts of vitamin c. The vitamin c content is about 65 times that of an orange and a single cherry provides the minimum daily-recommended vitamin c requirement.

Quercitin

Quercitin is a bioflavonoid. Bioflavonoids are potent nutrients that help maintain the health of collagen in the body. The firmness of the skin is due to collagen and so quercitin plays a role in preventing the anti-aging of skin and more specifically preventing the sagging of skin. Because quercitin and other bioflavonoids aid in improving the health of capillaries, connective tissues, and circulation, they also help treat bruising and varicose veins. Bioflavonoids are powerful antioxidants that also boost immunity and can aid in reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, cataracts, cancer, help to regulate blood sugar, help in respiratory problems such as asthma, and prevent inflammation.

In addition to the above stated benefits, quercitin falls into the group of natural antihistamines that will not cause drowsiness. Quercitin can be very effective in preventing the release of histamine from cells and can be used to treat allergy symptoms such as swollen nasal passages, congestion, sneezing, watery and itchy eyes and nose, and skin conditions such as dermatographism, psoriasis, and eczema. On the other hand, non-natural antihistamines work differently. They do not prevent the release of histamine, but rather they block the action of histamine at receptor sites.

Natural antihistamines such as quercitin can be found in apples, grapefruit and some other citrus fruits, cherries, raspberries, red grapes, yellow and red onions, leafy vegetables, red wine, green tea, black tea, evening primrose, squash, shallots, courgettes and broccoli, blue-green algae, and capsium or “chili peppers”.

Uritca urens is an herb that has been used for many centuries because of its natural antihistamine properties. This herb is a rich source of quercitin.

Quercitin also helps boost the benefits of vitamin c and visa versa and therefore are often taken together.

Bromelain is an enzyme from pineapples that is an effective natural anti-inflammatory compound. It improves the absorption of quercitin and other bioflavonoids and therefore, natural antihistamine products often contain bromelain as well.

There is no set dosage for how much quercitin should be taken. Some recommend 1,200mg per day, while others suggest not going over 500mg per day to be absolutely sure of no problems, although no side effects have been reported. Dosages should be discussed with a physician and/or in consultation with a qualified nutritionist

The Gilmore Farmers Market in L.A.

A weekend with the girls in West Hollywood,  Kim , Danielle and I hopped into my cousins  Vintage Classic V.W. bug and headed to the Gilmore’s Farmers Market in L.A.   Established in 1934, when a dozen local farmers parked their trucks on an open field, once a dairy farm, to sell fresh produce to local residents, the Market remains true to its roots today.

It’s still the best grocery store in L. A. offering a remarkable selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats , poultry and fish, baked goods, ice cream and nuts. I am wearing 1960’s vintage baby blue earrings and a 1980’s orange dress.

At patio tables and sit-down restaurants people gather daily to visit and eat some cuisine from around the world, French crepes, Mexican,  and Brazilian fare to name a few.

Vintage L.A. at it’s best, history lives here, when Arthur Fremont Gilmore came west from Illinois in 1870, he and his partner purchased two sizable farms. When the partners decided to part they drew straws and Arthur Gilmore became the sole owner of the 256 acre dairy farm at the corner of third and Fairfax in L.A.

I love this old Ford truck on display here, I can imagine the farmers loading up this truck with all their fresh fruits and vegetables and selling them right off this truck.

A great weekend with the girls and a great day of shopping at the stores and the  Gilmore’s Farmers Market, for more information, www.farmersmarketla.com.

Hope everyone has a great week !

Simple morning pleasure by Dorothy Andries

My special morning simple pleasure is going to the pool across the
street for the early adult swim or taking an early morning walk
through our parks and just hearing the birds sing. That is the time
when I pray for everyone in the family and ask that you all be safe
and well. Next time you come, we must walk the labyrinth together over
at St. Gregory’s Church, which is just down the block from us.

Thank you for your wonderful simple morning pleasures
email, I took this picture at  the front of the condo ,one  of the
beautiful North Chicago parks, and I too  loved walking in the mists
of all the old beautiful trees .

                                             Thanks again, Love Cheryl

Please keep sending me your simple morning pleasure so I can post them. Thank-you.
